I was following the countdown on the SpaceFlightNow web site and was in
my front yard in Long Beach watching it fly by. Although it was
partially obstructed by clouds it was still pretty thrilling to me as I
worked Delta 4 during the development years. Sorry I didn't get any
pictures!

I am still pretty surprised that it was successful with the indian curse
and all. :-D

Those were probably high clouds at 8:15. According to Spaceflight Now
(http://spaceflightnow.com/delta/d317/)

"This inaugural West Coast flight of the Evolved Expendable Launch
    Vehicle program began at 8:33 p.m. local time (11:33 p.m. EDT; 0333
GMT). The liftoff was delayed 19 minutes due to strong winds blowing
    across the hilly launch base."

You saw more than I did though. It was a busy night and I forgot. :-(

Go to http://www.moonglow.net/ccd/pictures/rocket/index.html to see the
amazing light-show we could have enjoyed. (sigh!) Anyone see this
themselves, with or without photos?

BTW - Spaceflight Now (http://spaceflightnow.com) is an excellent
resource for viewing scheduled Vandenberg launches. With their
minute-by-minute status reports you'll quickly learn about delays or
scrubs.
