I do think the cane is a good idea.
The café is at the right side edge of the Observatory (as you approach it), down a flight of stairs.
It juts up against the edge of the hilltop so it has a nice view of Griffith Park.

I purchased my tickets for the shuttle online, and I *will* take my cane. I'm 
glad that the prices at the Cafe at the End of the Universe are less than 
astronomical...I was worried when I saw that Star chef Wolfgang Puck was 
involved.  ;-)
