I had the pleasure of attending my first Model Rocket launch hosted and sponsored by SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ROCKET ASSOCIATION.
The SCRA Model Rocket club has a centrally located, legal, supervised and controlled Model Rocket launch site serving the “Los Angeles/Orange County area” and also use the Lucerne Dry Lake Bed site in San Bernardino County. They also conduct Model Rocket building and design classes for individuals, families and youth groups.
The launch site that I attended on Saturday, August 24, 2024 was the LA site at the Santa Fe Dam in Irwindale.
This event was well organized, run and well participated by all ages. I spoke with a number of the attendees and the energy and enthusiasm was sky high. Bring a chair, your sunglasses and some shade. Fun for everyone.
The Southern California Rocket Association (SCRA) is a chartered section of the National Association of Rocketry (NAR). The NAR website at www.nar.org is a source for general information about model rocketry.
All launches are open to the public. No membership is required to participate in the model flying. It’s free to be a spectator at the launches.
