NSS Activists Brave Wet Weather to Bring Space to LOSCON Convention
Steve Bartlett
Fighting a cold, torrential downpour, a group of OASIS
members spent their Thanksgiving weekend promoting space activities
at the LOSCON science fiction convention in Burbank. The space activists
struggled to keep warm and dry at their information table at the convention,
where they talked about the benefits of human space exploration, handed
out NSS literature, and served as a valuable resource
for those interested in space in the local area.
The long-running convention, sponsored by the Los Angeles Science
Fantasy Society, gave chapter members access to a favorable
audience to their space development message. 2001 marked the seventh
year running that OASIS has supported the gathering.
As in past years, the local NSS representatives
provided speakers for various space-related talks and held their "Take
a Piece of Mars" candy giveaway. Space activists from as far away
as Florida joined the local effort to make the table a success.
OASIS extends its thanks to the table staffers
and those who helped with setup and teardown, including: Bob
Gounley, Paula Delfosse, Gail Bondi, Bill Ernoehazy, John Bondi-Ernoehazy,
Diane Rhodes, Tina Beychok, and others.
